Does the mystery of the sea and its inhabitants fascinate you? Do you wish to see creatures from the sea up close and personal? You are truly in for a visual treat at Underwater World Langkawi; one of the island’s most popular tourist attractions. Spread approximately six acres, it is located at the southern end of Pantai Cenang (at the outskirts of Pantai Tengah), making it the largest aquarium attraction in Malaysia.     With more than 200 different species of freshwater and marine fish that include rockhopper penguins, giant rays, harbour seals, sharks and the massive Amazonian arapaima – the largest freshwater fish in the world.   Upon entering the cosy air-conditioned interior, you will be greeted by majestic Arapaimas that can be seen in a spacious tank right in front of the entrance door. You will also find a fountain with a small man-made pool and many glass tanks in a dimly lit room. Be greeted by Orange Spotted Stingrays, Red-tailed Catfish, Perch Jungle Carps, Bala Sharks and Silver Dollar fishes.   The sprawling complex is split into three sections; Temperate, Sub Antarctic and Tropical Rainforest. Arguably the most popular visited section is the Sub-Antarctic that’s known for its ‘penguin-arium’ where cute black-footed and rockhopper penguins waddle on by. Expect to huddle amongst eager watchers in the exhibit; all clamouring to get a closer look at these playful penguins.   Other key attractions at Underwater World include a three-dimensional (3D) theatre, an Educational Resource Centre and a cafeteria – do catch the short film about Michael as it chronicles the life of a prehistoric fish before it eventually becomes a fossil. End your excursion through an expansive six million litre underwater tunnel tank that has a wide range of sea life such as giant stingrays, green turtles, sharks.   Conveniently Located Near The Smith House Did we mention that Underwater World Langkawi located close to our hotel?
